Lore & Background
Set shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi, the game follows Imperial Governor Adelhard of the Anoat Sector, who refuses to release his grip on the sector. He locks down all incoming and outgoing space traffic to maintain iron rule, keeping Palpatine's death under wraps and refusing to accept the fall of the Empire. With the Rebel Alliance having only a small presence in the sector, smugglers, assassins, crime lords, nobles, and crime cartels form their own rebellion against Adelhard.
Players create avatars and can purchase skills and upgrades, amassing a crew to assist in battles. The game supports up to four players. Playable classes include the Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, Rebel Guerilla, Diplomat, and Gambler.
Reader's Guide
Star Wars: Uprising attempted to bring action role-playing mechanics to mobile devices during a period when Star Wars mobile games were dominated by card battlers and tower defense titles. Its reception was mixed, with a Metacritic score of 65%. Pocket Gamer awarded it 6 out of 10, noting that while nothing was fundamentally wrong with it, players hoping for a more substantial mobile Star Wars experience would be disappointed. IGN gave it a 5.5 out of 10, describing the game as boiling down to the pursuit of upgradeable items administered through simple action and scant story. The game's servers were shut down just over a year after release, making it a short-lived entry in the Star Wars mobile game library. Its legacy lies in its attempt to offer a more involved RPG experience on mobile platforms, though it ultimately failed to achieve lasting impact or critical acclaim.
