Lego Star Wars: Castaways

A Lego Star Wars action game for Apple Arcade.

Lego Star Wars: Castaways is an action game from Gameloft Montreal, published by Gameloft. It launched on November 19, 2021, for iOS, macOS, and tvOS via Apple Arcade. It is the second Lego Star Wars title on the service, following Lego Star Wars Battles.

Players explore an island alongside others, completing quests and fighting enemies. The game offers character customization, building structures, and puzzles. Activities include exploring, interacting with characters, and finishing tasks. Beyond combat and exploration, there are mini-games like racing and building contests. The game draws on Star Wars elements such as characters, locations, and vehicles.

A progression system lets players unlock abilities, outfits, and gear as they advance, encouraging continued play. Daily challenges and events offer extra rewards. Players can form or join clubs to connect with others. Customization includes many Star Wars-themed outfits. Enemies include Stormtroopers, and players can race in Microfighters.

During development, the Gameloft team looked to the fast-paced, detailed style of The Lego Movie and its sequel. Game manager Lee Kaburis said they wanted full immersion in a Lego world, and that playtime involving nearly the whole team was the most important part of development.

The game received "generally favourable" reviews on Metacritic. Multiplayer.it and Pocket Tactics both gave it 8/10. The Telegraph India published an unscored review. One critic praised the game's simplicity but criticized its graphics, while another praised the graphics and recommended it to Lego fans, Star Wars fans, or Apple Arcade subscribers.

It was nominated for 'Best Family Game' at the 2022 Pocket Gamer Awards and won the "Visuals and Graphics" award at the Apple Design Awards 2022.
