Production

The miniseries was announced on May 6, 2024, two days after Star Wars Day. It depicts an alternate Star Wars universe where a relic found by Sig Greebling serves as a plot device. The idea of Darth Jar Jar was inspired by fan theories. Jedi Bob, a minifigure from a 2002 Lego set, makes his on-screen debut. Ahmed Best and Mark Hamill were announced to reprise their roles with the teaser trailer. Other cast members include Gaten Matarazzo, Tony Revolori, Marsai Martin, Michael Cusack, and Bobby Moynihan. At D23 on August 9, 2024, Anthony Daniels, Kelly Marie Tran, Billy Dee Williams, and Naomi Ackie were announced to return. At Star Wars Celebration on April 19, 2025, Best confirmed his return for the sequel, along with Matarazzo and Revolori; Ben Schwartz and Ashley Eckstein were also cast. A trailer on August 15, 2025 confirmed a September 19 release date, with Alan Tudyk and Cameron Monaghan reprising their roles. Animation was provided by Atomic Cartoons.

Reception

Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past ranked No. 1 on Disney+'s daily Top 10 list a day after its premiere and remained on the chart through September 25, 2025. On Rotten Tomatoes, the first series holds a 100% rating from 9 critics, and Pieces of the Past also holds 100% from 5 critics. The first series was nominated for Best Limited Series at the 52nd Annie Awards and for Outstanding Sound Mixing and Sound Editing for an Animated Program at the 4th Children's and Family Emmy Awards.
