Key facts and history
Two replacement housemates, Sam and Aisleyne, arrived on Day 12 after Shahbaz and Dawn departed.[3] A "golden ticket" promotion with Nestle distributed 100 tickets in Kit Kat bars, allowing winners to bypass standard auditions.[4] Housemate Susie Verrico was chosen from the ticket holders by Aisleyne picking a ball at random.[4] The promotion drew criticism from the Advertising Standards Authority regarding unclear terms and the lack of an independent adjudicator.[4]
Aisleyne was required to "evict" three housemates to the main house, then evicted Jonathan for real on Day 49.[2][5] The series began with fourteen housemates on launch night, and a further eight individuals entered later, resulting in twenty-two participants overall.[3] After a public vote on Day 83, four previously evicted contestants entered the House Next Door; Nikki got 63% of the votes cast.[6] Allowing evicted housemates to become potential winners drew criticism; Channel 4 got 500 complaints, while Ofcom received more than 1,000.[7]
What the cited sources add
A Big Brother spokeswoman denied a ban on Welsh, saying housemates could speak any established language.[8] The Welsh Language Society complained to Channel 4, Ofcom and S4C about the incident.[8] The BBC article notes that Glyn countered "But Welsh is British" to Big Brother's warning.[8] The same source confirms that any Welsh spoken would be translated via subtitling.[8]
