Plot

In 1991, José Luis Gaspar takes his wife Pilar and their teenagers Lucia and Rodrigo to the beach. After Lucia argues with her family and leaves with her boyfriend Charly to attend a carnival, the rest go out to sea in a paddle boat. During a sudden thunderstorm, they are transported in time to 2022. In the future, they find Quique, now a middle-aged man, who explains that Lucia died at the carnival in 1991; the family suspects Charly killed her. José seeks help from fortune teller Ana Clara and her cousin/assistant Elvirita to bring Lucia back, using a bracelet Ana Clara received from José in 1991. Pilar gets a job at a fashion boutique, and Rodrigo resumes high school with Quique's help. José and Ana Clara spot an aged Charly advertising his family's condo for sale and confront him at an open house; he flees and is hit by a car, which Pilar witnesses. At a family dinner, Pilar berates José for getting a man killed. José makes another desperate attempt to return to 1991 by paddling into another thunderstorm in a nearly-identical paddle boat, with Pilar and Rodrigo joining him at the last minute. The plan works, and they find Lucia back at the beach in 1991, thinking only an hour or two has gone by. José and Pilar try to prevent Lucia from going to the carnival, first by throwing her a grand birthday party, then by explaining they traveled into the future. She doesn't believe them and angrily leaves with Charly. The family and Quique rush to the carnival to rescue her. There, Lucia discovers a smartphone from 2022 in her jacket with footage of her gravestone, runs from Charly, and gets on the Ferris wheel with Quique. When Lucia rejects a kiss from Quique, he tries to sexually assault her. José climbs the Ferris wheel to rescue her but falls to his death. In 2022, aged versions of Pilar, Rodrigo, Lucia, Charly (now married to Lucia with Pilar's blessing), their adolescent daughter, Ana Clara, and Elvirita paddle out to a thunderstorm in another attempt to bring José back.

Reception

Manuel J. Lombardo of Diario de Sevilla gave the film one star, finding that little works and citing a lazy script development that throws overboard the many possibilities of collision between elements and sensibilities. Sergio F. Pinilla of Cinemanía rated it 4 out of 5 stars, praising its excellent score and the parodic and witty character of its narrative and mise-en-scène. Raquel Hernández Luján of HobbyConsolas rated it 62 points, calling it acceptable and highlighting the starting premise and casting as the best things, while citing the most dramatic part spoiling the fun and the final act as the worst.
