Last updated
The Athena II is an American small expendable launch system, a member of the Athena family alongside the smaller Athena I. It flew three missions between 1998 and 1999, with one failure, and was scheduled to return in 2012 but had not flown again as of 2024. The rocket uses solid first, second, and third stages, plus a monopropellant liquid-fueled fourth stage. Its maiden flight from Spaceport Florida on 7 January 1997 successfully placed the Lunar Prospector spacecraft into orbit.
