Cherry Filter was formed in 1997. When first formed, everyone was curious about the meaning of the name 'Cherry Filter.' Vocalist Youjeen stated in an interview that she wanted a name expressing both femininity and masculinity—a filter representing masculinity and the cherry representing femininity. The original lineup included Youjeen on vocals, Jojinbo on guitar, Yaenhead on bass, and Sonstar on drums. Current members are Jung Woo-jin (leader, guitar), Yungeun (bass), Sonstar (drums, rap), and Youjeen (vocals).

In 2001, Youjeen temporarily left Cherry Filter to pursue a solo career in Japan, where she released music with the help of Luna Sea member J. She released five singles, one mini-album (*Someday*, 2002), and one studio album (*BEWITCH*, 2003) over two years. After the release of *BEWITCH* through Teichiku Records, Youjeen ceased activities in the Japanese music scene. She is still active with Cherry Filter in South Korea.
