Ian Flynn was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, and attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He began his career by sending unsolicited proposals to Archie Comics, which led to his hiring as a writer on Sonic the Hedgehog. He became chief writer starting with issue #160, following the departure of Ken Penders, and remained until the series was canceled at issue #290. During his tenure at Archie, Flynn also wrote Sonic Universe, Mega Man, and New Crusaders, and collaborated frequently with penciller Tracy Yardley. After Archie's cancellation, Flynn became the lead writer for IDW Publishing's Sonic the Hedgehog series as of April 4, 2018. He made his television writing debut with the Sonic Boom episode "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Worse-er." Flynn also wrote the story scenes for Sonic Origins and the scripts for Sonic Frontiers, including its prologue comic and animation. He contributed to the mobile game Sonic Dream Team and the story for Sonic X Shadow Generations. In addition to his writing, Flynn hosts the Q&A podcast BumbleKast, where he answers fan questions about the Sonic franchise. He lives in Toronto and is married to Aleah Baker, a writer and colorist on Archie Sonic books. Flynn became a naturalized Canadian citizen in May 2023.
