Band history

The original lineup was guitarist Fletcher Dragge, bassist Jason Thirsk, singer and guitarist Keith Brown, and drummer Hank Jacobson. Brown and Jacobson left the same year, with drummer Byron McMackin coming on board and Thirsk handling vocals until Jim Lindberg joined as singer. All members had played in other local bands and gone to Mira Costa High School, except for McMackin, who went to Redondo Union High School. Six months after that release, Lindberg left the group, saying he felt a lack of motivation and security from rock bands in the area. The band toured Europe with Dave Quackenbush of The Vandals on vocals, then Thirsk switched from bass to singing, with Randy Bradbury taking over bass. It became an underground hit and made Pennywise a major name in punk. This was the last album with Jason Thirsk playing bass all the way through. Thirsk left to deal with his alcoholism. The next album, Full Circle, was dedicated to his memory.
