History
Hinckley, who was fixated on Jodie Foster and her role in Taxi Driver, hoped the shooting would win her over. The band’s name was a grim joke referencing that event. Don Redondo, who played in The Deez, and Michael Cornelius, from Jr. Chemists, met through Phoenix’s skateboarding and punk scenes. They started jamming after a D.O.A. show on the Hardcore 81 tour. Mike “Bam-Bam” Sversvold joined after running into Redondo at an Industrial Dance in Phoenix. Cornelius brought in Brian Brannon after meeting him at skate spots and punk gigs. Their cover of “Schroeder’s Theme” has been called one of the finest surf music recordings by a punk band. During the 1980s, Brannon, Redondo, and Cornelius all contributed freelance articles and photos to the magazine. Brannon currently holds the rank of Master Chief in the United States Navy Reserve.
