Lakeburg Legacies

Lakeburg Legacies, a simulation game released in 2023, puts players in charge of a medieval village and the personal lives of its residents. The villagers are generated at random, and their contentment hinges on being placed in jobs they like, with their workplaces properly staffed. Players also orchestrate relationships: any two unrelated villagers can marry, regardless of sexual orientation, and any couple can have children. When children turn 18, they must move out and be given their own home. If parents remarry and the combined household lacks space for all existing children, those who don't fit become orphans. Successfully pairing villagers earns love points, which can be spent to attract new people by making them fall in love with a current resident; otherwise, newcomers can be bribed to immigrate. A game session can last 30, 75, or 100 years, and at the end, players unlock artwork based on how well they managed the town.

The game was developed by Ishtar Games, a studio with offices in Lille and Bordeaux, France, and launched for Windows on July 20, 2023. Critical reception was mixed. On OpenCritic, it scored an average of 62 out of 100, with 43% of critics recommending it. *Rock Paper Shotgun* praised its looks and smart ideas but noted that ignoring villager happiness carried few consequences, encouraging a min-maxing approach that turned the town dystopian. *PC Gamer* found it an awkward, goalless mix of contradictions and impersonal systems. *Siliconera*, while acknowledging the simulation elements weren't deep, recommended it to city management fans who enjoy watching virtual lives unfold. *Eurogamer* called it a capable village management sim that didn't fulfill the promise of its social management features.
