In Seville, Spain, the local city derby known as the Seville derby (Derbi Sevillano) or the Great Derby (El Gran Derbi) is played between Real Betis and Sevilla. Sevilla FC was founded in 1890, followed in September 1907 by a second city club, Sevilla Balompié. An internal split from Sevilla FC then led to the creation of Betis Football Club. In 1914, Betis Football Club merged with Sevilla Balompié, and with a royal patronage title, the club became Real Betis Balompié. The first Seville derby took place on 8 October 1915, ending in a 4–3 victory for Sevilla. The first competitive derby between the sides was a Copa del Rey match on 19 February 1928.
Sevilla is based in the wealthier Nervión district and plays at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. Real Betis, backed more by the working class, plays in the Heliopolis area at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.
