The House on the Borderland
A recluse's diary of cosmic horror and otherworldly dimensions.
Last updated
The House on the Borderland is a novel that marked a radical departure from typical late-19th-century Gothic fiction.[1] American horror writer H. P. Lovecraft praised the novel at length after encountering it in 1934.[2]
Making and release
Revelstroke updated Hodgson's original "manuscript discovery" frame to 1952 Ireland.[3] The climax of the graphic novel is purely Revelstroke's invention, excepting the very last page.[3] Revelstroke listed himself as a "Carnacki Fellow" in the credits, a direct reference to Hodgson's other works.[3] A 96-page color graphic-novel adaptation, with story by Simon Revelstroke and art by Richard Corben, was published in 2000 by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint.[3]
A dramatization of the novel, consisting of four episodes and lasting two hours, was broadcast by BBC Radio in 2007.[4] Issue #2 of Lurker Magazine, released in 2020, included a solitaire board game adaptation of the novel.[5] The Spanish pop band Los Wattsons included a song titled "La casa más allá del confín de la tierra" on their debut LP Escándalo en Bohemia.[6]
What the cited sources add
Both softcover and hardcover editions of the graphic novel exist, and it features an introduction written by Alan Moore, a British comic writer.[3]
