Production

The six-episode anthology was ordered to series at Hulu in February 2016, with Dolly serving as showrunner. Freddie Wong, Matthew Arnold, and Dolly were reported to act as executive producers and also direct individual episodes. Each episode was planned to be an hour long and tell a standalone story. In June 2016, Lea Michele and Robert Buckley were announced as leads for the first episode, while Ryan Lee was cast in a separate episode. Joel McHale joined Michele and Buckley in the first episode, and Sarah Hyland was cast in a leading role for another episode. Patton Oswalt was cast alongside Hyland, Ashley Rickards was set to lead a different episode, and Sterling Beaumon co-starred opposite Lee. Megan Mullally and Constance Wu were cast together in one episode. In July 2016, Lorenza Izzo, Daniel Zovatto, and Tom Noonan joined the cast, with Izzo in a separate episode, Zovatto opposite Hyland, and Noonan opposite Wu and Mullally. Mark Hamill was announced as narrator on March 21, 2017. Filming began in June 2016.
