Lore & Background
Burroughs began his major junior career with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League, where he was named captain on September 23, 2013. He was traded to the Medicine Hat Tigers on January 5, 2015, and signed his first NHL entry-level contract with the New York Islanders on April 8, 2015. After several seasons in the Islanders organization, he was traded to the Colorado Avalanche on October 11, 2020, and made his NHL debut on April 5, 2021. He later signed with the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent on July 28, 2021, scoring his first NHL goal on November 19, 2021.
Burroughs joined the San Jose Sharks as a free agent on July 1, 2023, but was traded to the Los Angeles Kings on June 27, 2024, in exchange for Carl Grundström. He subsequently signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Dallas Stars on July 6, 2026.
Reader's Guide
Kyle Burroughs' tenure with the San Jose Sharks was brief, lasting only one season of a three-year contract before he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. His signing was part of the Sharks' efforts to add defensive depth, but the organization moved him after one year in exchange for forward Carl Grundström.
Burroughs' career path reflects a player who worked his way from a seventh-round draft pick (196th overall in 2013) to regular NHL duty, with stops in the Islanders, Avalanche, Canucks, Sharks, and Kings organizations. His professional career began in the ECHL with the Missouri Mavericks before he established himself in the AHL with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, where he was twice named the team's AHL Man of the Year for community work. Burroughs' NHL experience includes playing for four different teams before his trade from San Jose, and he later signed with the Dallas Stars for the 2026–27 season.
