Super Bowl XXIV was an American football game played to decide the NFL champion for the 1989 season between the NFC and defending Super Bowl champion San Francisco 49ers and the AFC champion Denver Broncos. The 49ers defeated the Broncos 55–10 on January 28, 1990, at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Joe Montana was named Super Bowl MVP for the third and final time.

The Broncos aimed to avoid tying the Minnesota Vikings with four Super Bowl losses. The 49ers' dominance made the game one of the worst Super Bowls. The broadcast on CBS had about 73.85 million viewers, the smallest audience since Super Bowl III.
