cariad@iaith:love4language is a reality TV show on S4C where people try to learn Welsh. The idea came from Fflic production staff in 2002. At first, members of the public spent six weeks at the Nant Gwrtheyrn language centre on the Llŷn Peninsula. This later became a week-long live series in 2004, featuring seven celebrities with Welsh connections: Janet Street-Porter, Ruth Madoc, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Amy Wadge, Steve Strange, Bernard Latham, and Jamie Shaw, all staying at Nant Gwrtheyrn.
The show was recommissioned in 2011, launching on 8 July with a new group of celebrities—Matt Johnson, Sophie Evans, Josie d'Arby, Colin Charvis, Helen Lederer, Rhys Hutchings, Melanie Walters, and Lembit Öpik—who spent a week learning Welsh with tutors Nia Parry and Ioan Talfryn at fforest eco-camp in west Wales. A Christmas special aired on 24 December 2011, where seven of those celebrities spent a weekend in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire.
The series returned on 23 May 2012 with a different celebrity lineup: CBeebies presenter Alex Winters, Scrum V and BBC Sports Wales presenter Lisa Rogers, tenor Wynne Evans (also known as Gio Compario from GoCompare.com adverts), news presenter Lucy Owen, rugby player Gareth Thomas, former X-Factor contestant Lucie Jones, actor Robert Pugh, and actress Di Botcher. In 2013, the show invited members of the public again. The 2014 series featured eight celebrities, including goalkeeper Neville Southall, weather presenter Behnaz Akhgar, singer Ian Watkins, and Big Brother winner Sam Evans. The 2015 series was filmed at the Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth and broadcast on S4C in June 2015. Nia Parry co-hosted with former participant Wynne Evans. The learners that year were comedian Chris Corcoran, actor and writer Steve Speirs, TV weatherman Derek Brockway, actress Nicola Reynolds, former international rugby player Tom Shanklin, CBeebies presenter Rebecca Keatley, and athlete Jamie Baulch. The winner was announced as Caroline Sheen.
