The technical team was predominantly Polish: Ryszard Lenczewski handled cinematography, Michał Lorenc composed the score, Glyn Shakeshaft edited, Jacek Osadowski designed the sets, and costume work was split between Andrzej Szenajch and Renata Własow. The finished product was deliberately bilingual, alternating between English and Polish dialogue to honour the dual national heritage of the story. It debuted on 26 October 1997, with each of its four episodes running approximately 52 minutes.

The Truth Behind the Diary

The series depicts Jones and Celina marrying in 1943, only to be discovered by German soldiers within hours of the ceremony, after which they are torn apart and returned to separate camps. Following his eventual escape, Jones is told that Celina has succumbed to tuberculosis—a detail that, tragically, he believed for the rest of his life. Yet the full truth emerged only after the series had already aired. Celina's son came forward with evidence proving that his mother had in fact survived the illness and recovered after Jones had already departed Germany. Celina lived until 1990, reaching the age of sixty-nine, and never remarried, holding out hope of a reunion with her husband that never came.
