Plot

In the near future, a virus kills all plants on Earth, dropping oxygen to 18% and threatening humanity. Scientists discover an ancient machine called the Sphere, believed to have created life on Earth, along with a warp drive from the same civilization. A group of international scientists, including Steve, launches Project Gemini to bring a copy of the Sphere to a terraformable planet. During the journey, a problem with the warp drive forces an early stop near a young planet with an unstable atmosphere and a temperature of 16 °C, requiring oxygen masks outside the ship. The pilot is suspended by Steve but goes to check the engine anyway; moments later, the crew sees him dead outside the window. They accelerate the schedule and descend to the planet, and Steve is suspended due to the pilot's death. A flashback shows Steve giving his girlfriend Amy a bracelet made from a piece of the original Sphere. On the planet, the crew places the Sphere in a cave and activates it, which begins creating a sustainable environment. However, the Sphere releases a Trojan, a bio-robot alien, which tries to enter the lander. Steve and a crew member return to the cave without permission; the Trojan attacks and infects a crew member. Steve realizes they did not travel through space but through time, arriving four billion years in the past on a young Earth before life began. The captain shows a video proving Steve knew about the Sphere's anomaly that created the Trojan; the video shows Steve interacting with human-shaped holograms. Studying the infected crew member's blood, Steve discovers the clue to a vaccine that could save Earth. He engraves the vaccine formula on the piece of Sphere he will use for his wife's bracelet. He decides to blow up the lander to destroy the Trojan. Back in the future, Amy finds the formula on the bracelet and activates the first Sphere, interacting with a human-shaped hologram of Steve from the past. After a farewell and instructions to create the vaccine, Steve removes his oxygen mask and dies, saving humanity.

Production

Serik Beyseu, who had previously edited other films, directed the project. The script is said to have been written by Vyacheslav Lisnevsky and Dmitry Zhigalov based on an original idea, though this cannot be confirmed. Production came from Viktor Denisyuk and Yevgeny Melentev’s company, KD Studios. Filming ran for two months across Russia and Kazakhstan. Moscow locations included the Comcity office park, Moscow-City, and the Aquamarine residential complex on Ozerkovskaya embankment. The crew visited Star City in Russia to consult with experts and astronauts. The alien planet’s scenery was filmed at Kazakhstan’s Charyn Canyon. The spaceship’s exterior, along with flight and landing sequences, were entirely computer-generated. At the studio, large sets were built for a secret laboratory and the ship’s interior. Designers created detailed costumes, including space suits, plus futuristic gadgets, smartphones, and weapons. KinoDanz’s own computer graphics studio handled the visual effects.
