Plot
Fifteen-year-old Valeria 'Lera' Arabova lives in Vladivostok with her mother Svetlana, stepfather Boris, and eight-year-old step-brother Yegor. She has pyrophobia from a childhood elevator fire that also led to her parents' divorce. Her father, flight engineer Valery Arabov, is aboard the space station Mira and uses satellite technology and AI to monitor her, though they remain estranged. Arabov's team observes a meteor shower expected to be harmless, but it changes trajectory and impacts the station and regions of Far East Russia, Korea, Japan, and Australasia.
Lera survives the blast and is hit by a van carrying a couple and their cat; they drive her to a hospital before crashing. She takes shelter in a toy store but becomes trapped. Arabov, the sole survivor on the station, restores power and contacts Lera through a baby monitor teddy bear. He guides her to rescue Yegor, who had gone to watch the meteor shower from a nearby building, using traffic lights and other devices to navigate the unstable structure.
