Lore & Background
Lost Eidolons is set in the kingdom of Benerio under the Artemesia Empire, founded by Emperor Ludivictus. The protagonist, Eden, is a freelance mercenary who becomes a fugitive after a mission to rescue a woman named Andrea goes awry. He joins the rebellion led by Isoro Feniche and eventually helps crown Abramo Orsio as king of Benerio. The story takes a turn when Balastar Feniche, Isoro's nephew, grows increasingly ruthless, kills Cristobal, and becomes a tyrant himself. Eden gains the powers of the Eidolons—godlike spirits that choose mortal hosts—but is initially unable to defeat Balastar. After two years of struggle, Eden corners and kills Balastar, with the ending varying based on whether the character Gilbert was saved: Eden either rules as a benevolent king or becomes another ruthless conqueror.
Reader's Guide
Lost Eidolons is notable as the debut project of Ocean Drive Studio, a team largely composed of former Nexon developers. The game was funded partly through a Kickstarter campaign in April 2021, which aimed to expand its scope and bring it to additional platforms. Its gameplay draws influence from the Fire Emblem series, while its aesthetics borrow from Western titles like Baldur's Gate and The Witcher. The game features 27 chapters divided into turn-based tactical combat segments and real-time camp segments where the player can raise rapport with companions to recruit new characters and unlock bonuses. Combat revolves around a weakness system tied to weapons and armor, with terrain and magic affecting the battlefield. Difficulty options include permadeath and turn limits, both of which can be disabled. A spin-off sequel, Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch, which incorporates roguelike elements, entered early access in November 2024 and was fully released in October 2025.
