Expeditions: Viking

A tactical RPG set in the Viking Age.

Expeditions: Viking

Expeditions: Viking is a tactical role-playing game where players control a squad. It was made by Logic Artists and came out for Windows on April 27, 2017. Players take on the role of a Danish Viking chieftain leading an expedition to Great Britain around 790 AD. This is the second game in the Expeditions series, following Expeditions: Conquistador, and was followed by Expeditions: Rome in 2022.

The game is set during the Viking Age. Players create their own clan chieftain using a character creator and can choose to play as a conqueror, merchant, or diplomat.

The game was first announced in May 2015. In October 2016, it was planned for release in early 2017, and it eventually launched on April 27, 2017.

According to the review aggregator Metacritic, Expeditions: Viking received "mixed or average" reviews. Daniel Starkey of GameSpot noted that the game lives in its atmosphere, calling most of it a spirited romp, but said the experience was marred by many technical issues and anachronisms. Charalampos Papadimitriou of RPGamer found that while the game lacks refinement—with limited camera control, repetitive graphics, and low production values—it still immerses players through an intriguing main story focused on local politics and realistic struggles. Ginny W. of Digitally Downloaded recommended the game to anyone with a passing interest in tactical RPGs.
