The story is set on the floating continent of Ara Fell, a cluster of islands connected by forests, villages, and castles. Long ago, a war between elves and vampires nearly wiped out the elves, who saved themselves by turning to stone, denying the vampires their blood and preventing further conversions. Since then, the vampires have remained stagnant, clashing occasionally with humans, dwarves, and other races.
The game opens with 16-year-old Lita and her friend Adrian exploring ruins for a magical elvish ring. Lita finds the ring on an altar but gets separated from Adrian. After putting it on, she sees a ghostly guide leading her through the ruins until she collapses. Her father and Adrian find her the next morning and bring her home to Aloria, where she is scolded. Soon, Lita and Adrian learn that the town’s pets have vanished. They discover the pets in a hidden cave beneath the home of a man named Arger, who admits to vampire sympathies before they defeat him. Lita, an archery prodigy, enters a local competition. She advances to face the champion and, on the verge of losing, uses the ring’s elvish power to win. This catches the attention of visiting sorcerers, who recognize the ring’s source. Lita’s father forgives her and agrees to take her hunting, but the sorcerers approach them first.
At the Hunting Grounds, Lita and Adrian cannot find her father. The ghostly figure reappears, calling herself Asari, an elven spirit sent to help Lita break the stone curse on her people. Asari explains that the ring can dispel the curse and that Lita must go to the Ruins of Arei in vampire territory. When Lita reunites with Adrian, the ring’s power turns him and the entire village to stone. Despairing, Lita is taken in by the local bard, Doren, who reveals that the sorcerers saved a few people, including himself, Lita’s father, and the village elder. The group agrees to go to the ruins, but vampires attack at night, biting Lita’s father and the elder, leaving them mortally wounded. Doren stays behind to care for them while Lita travels with sorcerer Seri Kesu.
