Circa Survive

Philadelphia rock band formed in 2004 by Anthony Green.

Circa Survive is a band formed after vocalist Anthony Green left Saosin in 2004 and returned to Philadelphia to record with friend Colin Frangicetto.[1] AllMusic categorized the band's style as "progressive hardcore".[2] The band confirmed an indefinite hiatus on October 18, 2022, though Green later admitted in December 2025 that the hiatus was actually a breakup.[3][4]

Making and release

Circa Survive's first album, Juturna, was released on April 19, 2005, on Equal Vision Records and peaked at No. 183 on the Billboard 200.[5] On Letting Go* was also produced by Brian McTernan, with artwork by Esao Andrews.[6] The band recorded their third album, Blue Sky Noise, in Toronto with producer David Bottrill and signed with Atlantic Records.[7] The fourth album, Violent Waves, was self-released on August 28, 2012, after Atlantic offered less money because Blue Sky Noise did not meet sales expectations.[8][9]

The fifth album, Descensus, was recorded at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, PA with producer Will Yip and released through Sumerian Records.[10][11] On October 19, 2022, Circa Survive announced they would combine two EPs into their seventh studio album, Two Dreams, due out December 16, 2022.[12] Brian McTernan handled production duties for the album at Salad Days Studios, which is located in Baltimore.[5] Equal Vision Records put out Circa Survive's sophomore LP, On Letting Go, on May 29, 2007; it debuted at number 24 on the Billboard 200.[5]

Blue Sky Noise* hit stores on April 20, 2010, and climbed to number 11 on the Billboard 200, marking the group's highest chart placement.[5] The group revealed their sixth record, The Amulet, on July 10, 2017, and it came out through Hopeless Records on September 22, 2017.[13]

What the cited sources add

Circa Survive's track on that split was "Bad Heart", a b-side recorded after the 2012 album Violent Waves.[14] Brendan Ekstrom from Circa Survive explained that the split came about after he saw Sunny Day Real Estate's 2009 tour shows and knew they had written at least one song.[14]
