History

The team first won the Hesse Cup in 1961, beating FC Arheilgen 3–2, and reached the final again in 1968, losing to SG Westend Frankfurt. In 1965 it became a founding member of the Landesliga Hessen-Nord, winning that league the following season to enter the Amateurliga Hessen for the first time. In its debut Amateurliga season (1967–68) it finished second behind Rot-Weiß Frankfurt, qualifying for the German amateur football championship, where it lost in the first round to 1. FC Köln's reserve team. The next season it placed 17th and was relegated back to the Landesliga. A second Landesliga title in 1971 brought a return to the Amateurliga, where it struggled for three seasons until 1974. That year the senior team was relegated from the Regionalliga Süd due to a league reorganisation introducing the 2. Bundesliga; the reserve team then dropped out of the higher amateur league and became KSV Hessen Kassel II. After the senior side returned to professional football in 1980, the reserve team went back to the Landesliga in 1982. In 1984 it won a third Landesliga title and moved up to the Amateur-Oberliga Hessen for another three seasons. When the senior team was relegated again in 1987, the amateurs dropped to the Landesliga but returned two years later after both teams won simultaneous league titles. KSV Hessen Kassel spent only one season in the 2. Bundesliga (1989–90), forcing the reserve team to leave the Amateur-Oberliga in 1990. It played in the Landesliga for five seasons. In 1993 the club was renamed FC Hessen Kassel; the next year the first team entered the new Regionalliga Süd. FC Hessen Kassel II finished second in the Landesliga and moved up to the Oberliga Hessen, but placed 18th in 1995–96 and was relegated. During the 1997–98 season FC Hessen Kassel declared insolvency, and both senior and second teams were withdrawn from league football.
