Rammstein, a German heavy metal band, came together in the mid-1990s. Its six members—vocalist Till Lindemann, guitarists Richard Kruspe and Paul Landers, keyboardist Flake Lorenz, bassist Oliver Riedel, and drummer Christoph Schneider—hailed from East Berlin and Schwerin. The group’s catalog includes eight studio albums, three live albums, and six video albums. They have also put out 33 singles, with 30 of those featuring music videos.
Their first single, “Du riechst so gut,” arrived on 24 August 1995 in a scented digipack. One month later, their debut studio album, *Herzeleid*, hit number six on the German Media Control Charts and stayed there for 102 weeks. Before their second album, the single “Engel” came out; it appeared in the closing credits of the 1997 film *Mortal Kombat Annihilation*, and its music video paid tribute to the movie *From Dusk till Dawn*, released on 1 April 1997. “Engel” reached the top three on the German singles chart and earned a gold certification from the Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI) for selling over 250,000 copies.
The second album, *Sehnsucht*, dropped in August 1997. It topped the charts in both Germany and Austria and later went platinum with the respective IFPI organizations. On 31 August 1999, the band issued their first live album, *Live aus Berlin*, recorded over two nights at the Wuhlheide Venue and released on CD and DVD. Their third studio album, *Mutter*, came out in April 2001, reaching number one in Germany and Switzerland and earning double platinum in both countries. Five singles came from it: “Sonne,” “Links 2 3 4,” “Ich will,” “Mutter,” and “Feuer frei!”—the last of which appeared in the opening scenes of Rob Cohen’s film *xXx*. In 2003, the group released the DVD *Lichtspielhaus*, which included live performances, music videos, and interviews.
On 26 July 2004, the single “Mein Teil” came out, inspired by German cannibal Armin Meiwes; it peaked at number two in Germany and Finland. Later that year, the fourth studio album, *Reise, Reise*, topped charts in Austria, Finland, Germany, and Switzerland, and went platinum in the last two countries. Other singles from it were “Amerika,” “Ohne dich,” and “Keine Lust.” Released worldwide on 28 October 2005, *Rosenrot* hit number one in Germany, Austria, and Finland, and earned gold in Austria and Finland and platinum in Germany.
