Till Lindemann and Peter Tägtgren met around the year 2000 in a rock pub in Stockholm, introduced by members of Clawfinger. In 2013, when Rammstein was headlining a festival in Sweden, Lindemann invited Tägtgren to their show and proposed a project together, as Rammstein would be on a break for the next two years. They originally planned only one or two songs, but Tägtgren felt they were 'too good' and wanted to write more. The band's name was 'the only thing we couldn't come up with'; all considered names were already taken, so they accepted a suggestion by somebody else and simply called it 'Lindemann', though Tägtgren was initially unhappy with it.

The duo released their debut single 'Praise Abort' on 28 May 2015, followed by the album Skills in Pills on 19 June 2015. In 2018, they composed music for an adaptation of the play 'Hänsel und Gretel', with Till Lindemann also appearing in the play. Their second album F & M was released on 22 November 2019, preceded by the single 'Steh auf' featuring Swedish actor Peter Stormare. The band toured in February and March 2020, but the tour was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In November 2020, the duo announced their collaboration had ended, with their final release together being a concert film of their 2020 show in Moscow.
