Smoke

The SAS chemist who seals off entrances with remote-detonated toxic gas.

Smoke is a Defending Operator in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege and Rainbow Six Mobile, the codename of James Porter of the British SAS. He is a medium-armoured defender who carries three Compound Z8 Remote Gas Grenades.

The grenades stick to any surface they hit and wait until Smoke sets them off. Each one releases a toxic cloud about five metres across that hurts, and can kill, anyone who stays inside it, which makes them a strong tool for denying a doorway, a hatch or the defuser plant late in a round.

Background

The cloud spreads along the surface the canister is stuck to rather than away from it, and it can be triggered at any moment while Smoke is alive. Because the canisters are electronic, IQ can detect them, Thatcher's EMP grenades can disable them, and Twitch's shock drones, Kali's LV Lances, Zero's ARGUS cameras and Flores' drone can destroy them.

Porter was born at King's Cross in London. He skipped formal schooling for tutors and field science, faked his ID to join the army, boxed as a middleweight on the Army Boxing Team and was later accepted into the SAS, joining Rainbow in 2015. After the 2022 Six Invitational, where he played on Team Kali, he followed Kali out of Rainbow to Nighthaven, and after Nighthaven was bought out in 2024 he joined Denari's mercenary company ARASSAS.
