Mashed is a vehicular combat racing game created by Supersonic Software. It first launched in Europe for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Windows in June 2004. An enhanced version, called Mashed: Fully Loaded in Europe and Drive to Survive elsewhere, came out in Europe in March 2005 and in North America in December 2006. A direct sequel, Wrecked: Revenge Revisited, followed in 2012.
The game supports four-player multiplayer. On PlayStation 2, which only natively supported two controllers, the game’s minimal button requirements allowed a unique setup: two players could share one controller, with one using the D-pad and left stick, and the other using the colored buttons and right stick. The PS2 version also works with a multitap for four controllers.
According to Metacritic, Mashed received mixed or average reviews on all platforms except the PlayStation 2 version of Fully Loaded, which got generally favorable reviews. Andy Young of VideoGamer.com called the Xbox version a great multiplayer game and one of the best in recent memory. Some American outlets reviewed the game more than a month after Fully Loaded’s European release, but nearly two years before its North American launch. In Japan, D3 Publisher released the PS2 Fully Loaded edition on 15 December 2005; Famitsu scored it 21 out of 40 (two sixes, one five, one four).
