M416

The one rifle that wins the lobby, the hallway, and the open field.

The M416 is a 5.56 mm assault rifle in PUBG, one of the most widely used and versatile primary weapons in the franchise. Modeled on the real Heckler & Koch M416 carbine, it serves as the go-to all-purpose rifle for players who want a single weapon that performs well from close-quarters through mid-range engagements without sacrificing too much at extended distances.

Because it accepts a broad range of attachments—compensator, extended or quickdraw magazines, multiple optic types, several grip configurations, and a dedicated stock—the M416 can be tuned to a player's preferred recoil profile and engagement range. It is available on every PUBG map and is frequently the first rifle a player locks in as their primary, forming the backbone of most standard loadouts.

Lore & Background

In the PUBG universe, the M416 is a standard-issue carbine found in military depots, police stations, and civilian caches across every island and continent the game covers. It is not a rare or exotic weapon; it is the rifle a squad leader grabs when they need something reliable before the plane drops. Its ubiquity is part of its identity—every player on the map is likely carrying one, which means every close fight is, in effect, an M416-versus-M416 duel decided by attachment choices, positioning, and trigger discipline.

The weapon's design philosophy in-game mirrors its real-world role: a short-barreled, select-fire carbine built for versatility. The 16-inch barrel gives it enough velocity for effective mid-range fire while keeping the overall length manageable in vehicles and tight interiors. The 5.56 mm round it chambers is shared with the SCAR-L and the M16A4, meaning a player who picks up any of those three rifles can feed the others, a small logistical detail that matters when a squad is consolidating after a fight.

Because the M416 can be fitted with a compensator to tame vertical recoil, a 4× or 6× optic for pushing range, and a vertical or angled grip to control the horizontal wander, it occupies a middle ground that few other rifles match. It is not the fastest-cycling rifle in the game, nor the longest-range, but it is the most complete, and that completeness is why it remains the default choice for a large share of the player base across every season and map rotation.

Reader's Guide

So the M416. You grab it, you slap on a compensator and a vertical grip, and suddenly the vertical climb that used to send your spray into the sky is just… manageable. You pull down a little, and the rounds stay in the chest. That's the whole trick. It's not the fastest TTK in the game, but it's close enough that at 20 metres you're dropping a level-2 helmet in two or three bursts before they can react.

Mid-range is where it really sings. Pop the 4× on, lean off a wall, and you can push 80 to 120 metres and still hit shoulders and heads. The 6× works if you're steady, but past that you're really in SCAR-L or M16A4 territory. Close quarters? It's fine. The semi-auto lets you tap shots in a hallway without the full-auto spray walking into the wall behind your target.

The 30-round mag is the default. You feel it in your hand, you hear the mag go empty at the worst possible moment, and you're swapping. The 20-round quickdraw is faster to reload, which matters when you're in a vehicle and someone's peeling around a corner. I run the 30 in buildings, the 20 in cars. That's the whole loadout philosophy.

It's not flashy. It's not the SMG that shreds at five metres or the DMR that pops at 300. It's the rifle you reach for when you don't know what the next fight looks like, and that's why 90 percent of lobbies have one in every squad's hands.
