Everton Football Club is a professional football club from Liverpool, England, playing in the Premier League. Founded in 1878, it helped found both the Football League in 1888 and the Premier League in 1992, one of only three clubs to do so. Everton rank among England's oldest and most successful sides, with fifteen major trophies: nine league titles, five FA Cups and one European Cup Winners' Cup. As of August 2025 the club had spent a record 123 seasons in the top division, more than any other club.

Background

The club began as St. Domingo's FC, formed so members of a Methodist chapel congregation in Breckfield Road North could play sport through the winter, and took the name Everton in November 1879. It won its first league title in 1890–91, with Fred Geary scoring 21 goals. The first FA Cup followed in 1906 against Newcastle United, and a second title came in 1914–15. Signed in 1925 from Tranmere Rovers, Dixie Dean scored 60 league goals in 1927–28, a top-flight record that still stands, as Everton won a third championship. After relegation, the club bounced straight back, won the 1931–32 title and the 1933 FA Cup, and added a fifth title in 1938–39.
