Everton Football Club is a Premier League side from Liverpool, England, and one of the oldest and most successful clubs in the country. Founded in 1878, it helped launch the Football League in 1888 and the Premier League in 1992, one of just three clubs to be founder members of both. Everton have won nine league titles, five FA Cups and the 1985 European Cup Winners' Cup. Known as the Toffees or the Blues, they wear royal blue and white, contest the Merseyside derby with Liverpool, and as of August 2025 had spent a record 123 seasons in the top division.

Background

The club began as St. Domingo's FC, formed so members of a Methodist chapel congregation could play sport through the winter, and took the name Everton in November 1879. Its first league title came in 1890–91, with Fred Geary scoring 21 goals. Dixie Dean, signed in 1925, scored 60 league goals in 1927–28, a top-flight record that still stands. In 1933 Everton won the FA Cup by beating Manchester City 3–0 in the final. Harry Catterick's teams won titles in 1962–63 and 1969–70, and Howard Kendall's side of the mid-1980s delivered the club's greatest run, including the 1985 European Cup Winners' Cup.
