Background
Produced by Toei, it aired on TV Asahi from February 21, 1992 to February 12, 1993, for 50 episodes. Footage from all 50 was used heavily in the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and its core costumes became the original Power Rangers suits, while the Dragon Ranger costume was adapted for the Green Ranger.
It was the first Sentai series with a regular Sixth Ranger and the first with sentient, living mecha. In the story, five warriors from an ancient civilization wake after 170 million years when their enemy Bandora the Witch is released, and they call on the Guardian Beasts to protect mankind.
Toei distributes it internationally as Galaxy Rangers. Shout! Factory released the complete series on DVD in North America in 2015, the first Super Sentai series released there.
