Dialga Time Legend

The ruler of time who collides with space in a clash sparked by Arceus's awakening.

Dialga appears in Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life as a central figure in a conflict involving time distortions. The film depicts Dialga, which rules time, colliding with Palkia, which rules space, due to massive energy whirlpools caused by Arceus's awakening. These spacial distortions brought their dimensions together in Alamos Town, leading both legendary Pokémon to mistakenly assume the other threatened their territory. This battle extended into the Reverse World, bringing Giratina into the conflict as well.

Lore & Background

In the events of the film, Dialga's role is defined by its reaction to the spacial distortions created when Arceus awakened from a long slumber. These distortions forced a collision between Dialga and Palkia in Alamos Town. The conflict was severe enough to affect Giratina's dimension, the Reverse World. When Arceus emerged and threatened humanity, Dialga returned alongside Palkia and Giratina to stop it. In a pivotal moment, Dialga used its powers to send Pokémon trainers Ash Ketchum, Dawn, Brock, and Sheena back in time to the day Damos was manipulated into betraying Arceus.

In Their Own Story

The battle between Dialga and Palkia began when massive whirlpools of energy formed around the awakening Arceus. These distortions brought the two legendary Pokémon together in Alamos Town, where they clashed after mistakenly believing the other threatened their territory. The violence of this encounter rippled through dimensions, pulling Giratina from the Reverse World into the fray. Later, as Arceus prepared to destroy humanity due to a fake Jewel of Life, Dialga returned with Palkia and Giratina to intervene. Facing an unstoppable force, Dialga sent Ash, Dawn, Brock, and Sheena back in time to prevent the original betrayal that started the cycle. Despite their efforts, Damos and Marcus fell to their deaths in the collapsing temple. Eventually, after the timeline was corrected by Ash returning the real Jewel of Life, Arceus reversed its destruction, healing Dialga and its allies before they departed for their respective dimensions.

Reader's Guide

To understand Dialga's role in this specific film, note that it is one-third of a trio involved in a time-space conflict. It first engages Palkia in Alamos Town due to energy distortions from Arceus. Its most significant action occurs when it transports the main human cast back in time to witness and attempt to fix the historical betrayal by Marcus. The film shows Dialga as capable of manipulating time flow for others, sending them further back upon Sheena's request after they initially failed to stop Damos' death. The narrative resolves with Dialga being defeated alongside Palkia and Giratina by an enraged Arceus before the timeline is fully restored.
