Gameplay
The player and Eevee run a café where Pokémon order food and drinks, each order triggering a puzzle. Players clear Pokémon icons by linking them in a string, aiming to collect enough of a specific item shown on the customer's list. Some puzzles require clearing extra objects like Café skills and megaphones. Leveling up Pokémon unlocks new menu items to attract more customers. Staff Pokémon assist by altering icon types to simplify puzzles. Certain Pokémon are obtainable only through points events, team events, the delivery feature, or legendary visit events. On Nintendo Switch, the game supports only handheld mode. Originally, failing a level cost a life, and running out of lives imposed a time delay; extra lives could be bought with golden acorns earned through play, received from friends, or purchased via microtransactions. After the relaunch as ReMix, every attempt at a level consumes a life, whether successful or not.
Reception
Pokémon Café Mix received mixed or average reviews on Metacritic, with OpenCritic reporting fair approval and a 38% critic recommendation. Critics praised the art style as adorably nostalgic and the matching mechanic as easy to learn. The main criticism was the touchscreen-only requirement, which made Switch play uncomfortable. SwitchPlayer noted an eventual sluggish pace and gave a 3 out of 5. Destructoid rated it 6.5/10, calling it one of the sweetest looking mobile games. Pocket Gamer rated it 3 out of 5, stating the cute aesthetic could not mask a simple but tiring puzzler.
