Gameplay
Empulse is a 6v6 arcade shooter built around fast movement and mechs, drawing heavy inspiration from Titanfall. Players use wall-running and grappling hooks to navigate, while mechs act as power weapons rather than player-piloted drops. A unique paint mechanic in the grenade slot lets you coat surfaces to gain speed or jump boosts, damage or heal opponents, or slow them down—a concept reminiscent of Portal 2.
Development
After Splitgate 2's failed debut and re-release, 1047 Games made Empulse its main project. CEO Ian Proulx cited Titanfall 2, Black Ops 3, and SSX Tricky as influences on the movement system, and when headlines compared Empulse to Titanfall, he said the studio was not trying to make Titanfall 3. The early access version took roughly a year and a few months to build. On August 26, 2026, 1047 Games ended active development, explaining that the player base was too small to keep funding dedicated servers. Peer-to-peer servers will remain online for now.
Release
The game was unveiled and made playable as a demo for Steam Next Fest in early June 2026. 1047 Games opted to make Empulse a premium $20 release rather than free-to-play, and it launched without an in-game cash shop. The early access release on PlayStation 5 was briefly delayed due to certification processing. On August 26, 2026, 1047 announced they will no longer work on both Empulse and Splitgate 2; matchmaking will go offline on September 3, 2026, but players can still play via peer-to-peer support.
