Development
Redacted Studios, founded by former Namco Bandai senior producer David Robinson after he secured the rights to the series, developed the game. The story was written by Jim DeFelice, co-writer of American Sniper, and the soundtrack was produced by rapper RZA, who also created two soundtrack albums for the animated series. Series creator Takashi Okazaki provided the still image cutscenes. An Xbox One version was planned for October 9 but was canceled due to poor reception on other platforms.
Reception
Critics widely panned Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma. Polygon called it one of the worst games of 2015, and Giant Bomb named it the worst game of the year. According to aggregate review website Metacritic, it was the second worst-reviewed game of 2015. In November 2015, Versus Evil pulled the game from PSN and Steam. Steve Escalante of Versus Evil described the game as a failure in an interview, citing that its quality did not meet expectations and it did not sell well.
