Guni-Guni

Guni-Guni (from the Filipino word for "hallucination") is a 2012 psychological horror film produced by Regal Entertainment. Directed by Tara Illenberger, the film stars Lovi Poe and Benjamin Alves, and was distributed by GMA Films. The story is set in a boardinghouse in Cubao, where an unborn child was buried in the garden thirty years earlier, unbeknownst to the tenants. One resident is Mylene, a top medical student who appears kind and well-adjusted. However, her boyfriend Paolo knows nothing about her family, her estranged mother, a long-lost sibling, a prominent scar across her body, or the sense of incompleteness she carries. As Paolo tries to win back her affection, Mylene withdraws further into a private world. When Mylene is asked to perform an abortion for money—needing the funds for tuition—she struggles with the moral dilemma. Her decision triggers dark consequences, awakening a dormant force in the boardinghouse grounds. She begins experiencing nightmares of a dark twin, whose presence grows stronger as strange occurrences escalate. One by one, boarders die from unexplained causes. Mylene’s best friend Joanna, a resident psychic, senses the impending danger and investigates, leading them to confront an angry soul seeking justice. Lovi Poe plays dual roles: Mylene Castillo, a medical student with a hidden past, and Myra Castillo, her vengeful dark twin. Benjamin Alves portrays Paolo Lopez, Mylene’s repentant ex-boyfriend. Empress Schuck plays Joanna, a clairvoyant co-tenant. Other cast members include Isay Alvarez as Teresa Castillo, Gina Alajar as Mrs. Arevalo, Jaime Fabregas as Tatay Nanding, James Blanco as Angelo, Ria Garcia as Alicia, Neil Ryan Sese as Eddie, Gerald Pesigan as Jay-Jay, Julia Clarete as Vangie, Ces Quesada as Nanding’s wife, Guji Lorenzana as Javier, Chinggoy Alonzo as the Professor, Kris Bernal as Shirley, and Angeli Nicole Sanoy as Hazel. Regal Entertainment announced the film on March 30, 2012, alongside eleven other releases. On May 23, Roselle Monteverde confirmed Lovi Poe had taken the lead role. Benjamin Alves, a new GMA contract artist, signed on for his first lead role in a film. The film was distributed by GMA Films.
