DiMarco was born in Huntington, New York, and moved to Florida at age seven. He attended Lake Brantley High School and played college golf at the University of Florida. He turned professional in 1990 and won his first PGA Tour event at the 2000 SEI Pennsylvania Classic. He is known for runner-up finishes in three majors: the 2004 PGA Championship, the 2005 Masters, and the 2006 Open Championship. He was a member of the U.S. Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup teams in the 2000s.

The May wind off the Atlantic cut across the 17th at Sawgrass, lifting the fescue into a dry, golden haze. DiMarco stood over a ten-footer on the back nine, the crowd a murmur of white caps and sunburned shoulders. His caddie, quiet as always, tapped the flagstick and pointed to the left. DiMarco didn't look at the flag. He looked at the line his caddie had drawn in the air with a finger. He set the putter down, breathed once, and rolled it. The ball kissed the fringe, broke two inches, and dropped. He didn't pump his fist. He just nodded, hoisted his bag, and walked toward the clubhouse where the trophy was waiting. The crowd roared. He was already thinking about the next tee.

DiMarco's PGA Tour wins are the 2000 SEI Pennsylvania Classic, the 2001 Buick Challenge, and the 2002 Phoenix Open. He also won on the Nike Tour (1997 Nike Ozarks Open) and the Canadian Tour. He has not won The Players Championship or any World Golf Championships event.

• DiMarco sank a 15-foot birdie putt to win the 2001 Buick Challenge in a playoff against David Duval.
• At the 2002 Phoenix Open, a fan yelled 'Noonan!' from the movie Caddyshack as DiMarco putted; he made the putt and had the fan ejected.
