CG5 (musician)

Last updated

CG5, whose real name is Charles Duncan Green V, is an American YouTuber, singer-songwriter, and music producer born on May 10, 1999. He makes nerdcore hip-hop tracks about video games and internet culture, and also directs the horror series and film Project U Move.

Early life

Charles Duncan Green V was born on May 10, 1999, in Phoenix, Arizona, and is the fifth generation of his name. He has three siblings and began making music at age five using his father's computer. His family moved to Arizona when he was 12, and he attended multiple high schools before graduating from Highland High School in Gilbert, Arizona. He sang in a church choir, took a radio/audio production class, and worked at Chick-fil-A before pursuing music full time after graduation.

Music career

Charlie Green first put music online under his own name in mid-2012, starting with an original track called "What Is A Dream." He kept sharing both original songs and covers across SoundCloud and YouTube, and in 2014 dropped his first EP, Celadon, on SoundCloud. That October, he launched the CG5 channel, where he began posting remixes of well-known songs and video game scores. The channel name comes from him being the fifth Charlie Green in his family.

In 2015, he put out a second EP, Turning Gray. After some tracks on the new channel blew up and racked up millions of views, he abandoned his old channel and shifted his focus to nerdcore hip-hop. Around then, he also rebranded one of his channels from "CHARLES" to "CG5LIVE," turning it into a spot for behind-the-scenes clips, non-music videos, and edited stream highlights. His debut album, Patiently, arrived in March 2020.

That September, his Among Us-inspired single "Show Yourself" hit over 100 million views on YouTube. On July 1, 2022, he performed the U.S. national anthem for the Red Sox at Wrigley Field. In January 2023, he teamed up with LeGrand to re-release "give a little," which gained traction on TikTok thanks to a remixed line. June 2023 saw the release of "GRIMACE," tied to the Grimace Shake trend, followed by "THX" in July, based on the Skibidi Toilet series.

On his birthday in May 2024, he dropped "Forbidden Feeling," a track about relationship anxiety that earned praise from critic Jonathan Currinn. In January 2025, he unveiled the analog horror project Project U Move, featuring child actor Piper Rubio and appearances from other YouTubers and musicians.
