In Their Own Story
The corridor reeked of sulfur and old blood. Pain racked his shotgun, the hammer clicking in the dim red light. Ahead, the floor trembled. A Brute rounded the corner—eight feet of corded muscle and yellowed teeth, its arms swinging in a lazy, deadly arc. It saw him. It smiled. Then it charged, the ground cracking under each heavy footfall, and Pain had a split second to decide: dodge, or put a slug through that ugly grinning face. He chose the face. The Brute staggered, roared, and came again. There were two more behind it. The corridor was not going to end kindly.
