Armand Duplantis
Swedish-American pole vaulter, world record holder, two-time Olympic champion.
Last updated
As of 2026, his world record stands at 6.31 m.[1]
Key facts and history
Duplantis was born on 10 November 1999 to an American father who was a former pole vaulter and a Swedish mother who was a former heptathlete.[2] He first tried pole vaulting at age four and set his first age group world best at age seven.[3] He won the 2015 World Youth Championships at age 15.[4] He broke his own world record three times in 2022, becoming World outdoor and indoor champion.[5]
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, he retained his Olympic title and set a world record of 6.25 m.[6] In June 2015, Duplantis made the decision to represent Sweden in international competition.[7]
What the cited sources add
The same source reports that Duplantis has 44 of the top 101 jumps of all time (6.02 m and above).[8] A 2018 article by Zahn explains that Duplantis's 5.83 m jump at the Pole Vault Summit was invalidated because 75 mm crossbar pegs were used instead of the mandated 55 mm pegs.[9] A 2018 article by Gretschel states that Duplantis was granted a waiver by the LHSAA to compete in the elite men's pole vault section of the Texas Relays.[10] A 2025 Red Bull article states that Duplantis has broken the world record 15 times.[11]
