Fourteenth Melon Music Awards, first fully offline since 2019.
The 2022 Melon Music Awards took place on November 26, 2022, at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome. It was the fourteenth edition of the ceremony and the first to be held entirely in person since 2019. The event was organized by Kakao M via its Melon music platform. Only artists who put out music between November 8, 2021, and November 3, 2022, were considered for awards.
Lim Young-woong took home two of the top grand prizes (daesangs): Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. BTS won Record of the Year. Ive earned Song of the Year, marking the group’s first daesang win, and also shared the Best New Artist category with NewJeans. This was the first time two female acts won the rookie award at the same ceremony.
Online voting for most categories opened on November 4, 2022, for South Korean residents on the Melon website and ran until November 18. Nominees were chosen based on chart performance (60% downloads and 40% streams) combined with weekly Melon Popularity Award votes from the eligibility period. Categories open to online voting included Top 10 Artists, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Male Solo, Best Female Solo, Best Male Group, Best Female Group, and the Netizen Popularity Award.
Presenters included Kim Hyang-gi, Jonathan and Patricia Thona, Song Ye-rin, Bae Hyun-sung and Park Ji-hu, Leo J, Lee Sun-bin, Haha and Shin Hyun-ji, Jasson and Hong Hyun-hee, Go Min-si, Moon Sang-min and Yang Hye-ji, Chung Sung-hwa, Ahn Hyo-seop and Kim Se-jeong, Lee Soo-hyuk, and Cha Seung-won.
Winners were announced on the Melon website on November 4, 2022. Ive won four awards: Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Female Group, and Top 10 Artists. Lim Young-woong won five, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. (G)I-dle took two awards: Music Video of the Year and Top 10 Artists. NewJeans won Best New Artist and Top 10 Artists. Le Sserafim won Hot Trend and Best Female Performance. BTS won four awards, including Record of the Year and Best Male Group. IU won three: Best Female Solo Artist, Best Stage, and Top 10 Artists.
