Last updated

Robert Silverberg, an American author, wrote the science fiction novel The World Inside, which was released in 1971.[1] The narrative takes place on a future Earth, specifically the year 2381, where the global population has swelled to 75 billion, driven by a near-religious conviction that human procreation is the ultimate virtue.[2]

Making and release

The ISFDB record shows that Doubleday published the first hardcover edition in July 1971, priced at $4.95, with cover art by James Starrett.[3] Signet / New American Library released a paperback edition in September 1972, priced at $0.95.[3] A series of shorter pieces, published during 1970 and 1971, preceded the novel; with one exception, these appeared in Galaxy magazine.[1] Although Silverberg turned down the nomination, The World Inside was a Hugo Award nominee in 1972.[1][4]

A paperback edition for Canada, released by Signet / New American Library of Canada in August 1974, cost C$0.95.[3]
