Plot

The planet Memory Prime is home to Pathfinders, artificial intelligences that help Federation personnel like Lt. Mira Romaine sort incoming information for a project meant to avoid the fate of the damaged Memory Alpha archive. The planet also hosts scientific award ceremonies, but a killer stalks visitors and Spock is accused of belonging to a Vulcan terrorist cell called the Adepts of T'Pel.

Production

Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, a married couple who previously wrote science and technology textbooks in Canada, decided to stop writing textbooks. After watching Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home in a New York cinema, they wondered about Star Trek novels and contacted Pocket Books. They submitted story ideas, and the publishers selected Memory Prime. All correspondence was by post, with no in-person meetings.
