History

The club was formed in 1960 and initially played in the South Manchester and Wythenshawe League before moving to the Lancashire & Cheshire Amateur League in 1964. It is unclear whether the team was known as Flixton during its earliest years; it may have played under the name St Johns, a local club from which many of the first Flixton players came. The team appears to have played as Flixton only from 1964 onward. That year, the club applied to join the Lancashire & Cheshire Amateur League as Flixton Villa but was accepted only after dropping "Villa".

Playing as Flixton in Division Three for the 1964–65 season, home games were held at Urmston Meadows in Urmston. The club won the division in its first season after a championship play-off against South Manchester, having finished level on points but behind on goal difference. Flixton finished as Division Two runners-up in 1969–70, two points behind champions Cheadle Heath Nomads, earning promotion to Division One for 1970–71. That season ended with a next-to-bottom finish, returning the club to Division Two.

A second-place finish, five points behind champions Old Urmstonians, brought a return to the top flight. Flixton's final season in the Lancashire & Cheshire Amateur League saw a fifth-place finish in Division One. The club moved to the Manchester League in 1973, finishing fourth in Division Two in its first season. The 1977–78 season brought promotion to the Manchester League Premier Division by winning the Division One title, five points clear of Huntley.

In its first Premier Division season, Flixton finished as runners-up to Salford Amateurs in 1978–79. The club narrowly avoided relegation in 1979–80, finishing 14th of 16 teams, then recovered to fifth the following season.

Stadium

Flixton’s original home was Urmston Meadows, before they settled at Valley Road. That ground holds roughly 2,000 spectators and once hosted Manchester City Ladies’ home matches. Over the years, amateur and Sunday League teams like AFC Flixton, Withington Posh, Unicorn Athletic, Broadheath Central, and Northwich Flixton Villa (until they relocated to the Manchester Regional Arena) also used it. Today, Flixton are back playing all their home fixtures there.
