Eve is one of the twin controllers of the Machine Network, the primary antagonists of Nier: Automata. He and Adam are physical manifestations of the Machine Network, created by the Machines after they destroyed their alien creators centuries ago. Eve is characterized by his close bond with Adam. After Adam is killed by 2B, Eve goes mad with grief. This madness drives him to frenzy the connected Machines, leading to a chaotic and destructive rampage. 2B and 9S ultimately kill Eve, but during the battle, 9S becomes infected with Eve's logic virus. This infection forces 2B to kill 9S, though 9S's consciousness survives within the local Machine Network. The Red Girls are another construct within the Machine Network.

In Their Own Story

Eve is introduced alongside Adam as a twin controller of the Machine Network. After Adam is killed by 2B, Eve goes mad with grief. This madness drives connected Machines into a frenzy. 2B and 9S kill Eve, but 9S becomes infected with Eve's logic virus during the fight. This forces 2B to kill 9S. 9S's consciousness survives within the local Machine Network.

Reader's Guide

Eve is a boss enemy encountered during the first and second playthroughs of Nier: Automata. He is fought alongside or after Adam. The battle with Eve occurs after Adam is killed by 2B. Eve's attack patterns are driven by his grief-fueled frenzy. Defeating Eve is required to progress the story. After his defeat, 9S becomes infected with the logic virus, leading to a critical story event where 2B must kill 9S.
