Panthers–Saints rivalry
Division rivals since Carolina's first season in 1995; the Saints lead 34–29 and won the lone playoff meeting.
The Panthers–Saints rivalry is the NFL series between the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints. Carolina entered the league as an expansion team in 1995 and was placed alongside the Saints in the NFC West; the 2002 realignment moved both clubs into the new NFC South, so the two have been division rivals for their entire shared history and meet twice every season. New Orleans leads the all-time series 34–29 and won the teams' only playoff meeting.

Background
The Panthers won the first meeting, 20–3, on October 22, 1995. Sam Mills, a member of the Saints' "Dome Patrol" through 1994, joined Carolina for its inaugural season after New Orleans showed interest in re-signing him only once the Panthers had made an offer; he later entered both the Saints Hall of Fame and the Panthers Hall of Honor. From 2000 to 2002 New Orleans beat Carolina five times in a row, its longest streak in the series, and in 2003 the Panthers won a 23–20 overtime game on their way to a first Super Bowl appearance.
