Background
It was the first conference championship game to feature a team from Florida in 15 years. Jacksonville led 14–3 in the second quarter on Blake Bortles' 4-yard touchdown pass to Marcedes Lewis and a 4-yard touchdown run by Leonard Fournette, and New England cut the lead to 14–10 before halftime on James White's 1-yard run. Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski left the game after a helmet-to-helmet hit by safety Barry Church.
