Background
Tomlinson and Malik were members of One Direction, formed on The X Factor in 2010, which sold over 70 million records. After Malik left the band in 2015, he and Tomlinson engaged in a social media feud that led to a falling out. Tomlinson said in 2017 that his mother had wanted the pair to reconcile before her death in December 2016, but by 2022 they had not reconciled. The band split in 2016. Tomlinson and Malik were first spotted together after the funeral at Malik's Stairway to the Sky Tour show in January 2025. Rumors of a collaboration emerged in September 2025 after they were seen together in New York City and Nashville. The Sun first confirmed a documentary series, and a press release by the singers confirmed it on October 2.
